REAZ Loft...relieving memories in contemplative introspection…
The ‘Reaz Loft’ is envisioned as a home away from home for the client, Mr. Reazuddin Al Mamun, an eminent businessperson of Bangladesh. It is a place designed for him to spend time with his family as well as reflect upon in calm serene solitude. It is located at a site adjacent to his over 100-year-old hereditary home, where he grew up and spent a substantial time of his childhood. The plot faces a playground, from which he nurtured his love for sports, especially football.
DWm4 Intrends Ltd. had the opportunity to work in close cooperation with the architectural team DWm4 Architects and be onboard from the very beginning of the architectural design phase. The scope of works included interior design as well as construction of interior and finishing of the entire building project excluding the construction of the superstructure. This building architecture consists of a column free RCC shell with internal fluid spaces overlooking the playing field and has strategic openings on either side to allow daylight and views of his hereditary childhood home.
The interior was designed to celebrate the RCC shell of the building architecture overlooking the playing field. Thus, the use of a neutral palette is adopted and all services are either built in or strategically hidden. Wooden highlights were used as accents to provide warmth to the space and complement the landscape outside. The isolated floors were connected using a metal and glass composite staircase to lessen the visual obstruction of the fluid space, offering uninterrupted visual connections while celebrating the green playing field through a unique kinetic spatial experience within the loft. Landscaped gardens are created at different levels to make connections to the outdoor more seamless. The largest outdoor terrace at the top level incorporates a series of cascading steps reminiscent of a sports gallery and a place of solemn contemplation. It is exclusive to the master suite that offers a unique and framed view of the field.
The minimalistic approach in furniture coupled with finish material selection emphasizes and celebrates the playing field outside which in turn brings back childhood memories to be shared with the new generation and family members. The interior design approach conceptualized the architecture and interior to unify as a single entity and transcend beyond the concrete shell towards a symphony of memories and contemplative introspection.
This project has been awarded as the Architect of the Year in the Foreign Countries’ Architecture Award category at 33rd JK AYA.
